SÃO BICHOS QUE PARECEM PESSOAS,

E PESSOAS QUE PARCEM BICHOS.

E PESSOAS QUE PARCEM BICHOS.

Paula Rego

This new creation of the partnership of Portuguese choreographers Cláudia Martins and Rafael Carriço focuses on the many stories Paula Rego tells through her paintings. When the painter tells the story of a picture of herself, she always tells it in the present tense, adding to it something, some hidden situation or feeling that makes sense in the light of her reading of Today. This density of double meanings, the intensity of the characters, many of them grotesque in appearance, as well as the importance of proportion and positioning, to decipher the degree of importance of the characters in relation to each other, are some of the main motives for the creation. about an inexhaustible universe of everything imaginable. Fears are another safe where child fears are, aversion to the Salazarist regime, abortions, among many others. Paula Rego lives and works in London, but when she paints in her studio, it is in Portugal that she sets her mind. The fact that she makes dolls and physically recreates the situations she will paint, having "her" Lila as a model for years and years, makes her work highly suggestive for a contemporary dance creation in close interaction with the new technologies.
